More Information
Throughout the day, you’ll discover some of the Scenic Rim’s most iconic and memorable locations. Each stop offers its own unique charm, history and natural beauty:
Canungra
Founded in the late 1800s as a timber and dairy town, Canungra is now the gateway to the hinterland and Scenic Rim. Its friendly main street offers historic charm, local cafés and bakeries, and easy access to the surrounding rainforests. The town’s name comes from an Aboriginal word meaning “small owl.”
Lamington National Park
Established in 1915 and World Heritage-listed, Lamington National Park protects over 20,000 hectares of ancient Gondwana rainforest. Home to dramatic escarpments, waterfalls and more than 160 bird species, it’s one of Australia’s premier areas for walking, wildlife and rainforest scenery. Lamington is renowned for its biodiversity and lush, green landscapes.
O’Reilly’s Rainforest Retreat
Since 1926, the O’Reilly family has welcomed visitors to this mountain retreat set deep within Lamington National Park. O’Reilly’s is famous for its wildlife encounters, pioneering eco-tourism, and as the site of the popular Tree Top Walk. The retreat played a crucial role in rescuing survivors of the 1937 Stinson plane crash, adding to its legendary status.
Kamarun Lookout
Perched high on Lamington Plateau, Kamarun Lookout offers sweeping views of the valleys, forested ridges and distant mountain ranges of the Scenic Rim. It’s a peaceful stop to take photos, soak in the landscape and reflect on the scale of the surrounding wilderness.
Canungra Valley Vineyards & Mountview Alpaca Farm
Located on the banks of Canungra Creek, these vineyards combine Queensland’s wine heritage with a relaxed country setting. Enjoy a complimentary wine tasting in the historic homestead, explore the scenic grounds, and meet the friendly alpacas at Mountview Alpaca Farm, a fun and memorable experience for all ages.
